Programme Overview
Since 2020, we have provided the RDR Personal Development Journey to students from local schools.
Through a 7-day wilderness experience usually involving activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, high ropes and a multi-day tramp and rafting journey.
Through the outdoor activities they will experience life skills, enjoy a positive social environment, gain a better understanding of interpersonal relationships, and share new experiences. The students will also learn about the environment around them.
The programme aims to benefit not only the students involved, but also their peers, families and communities as we believe that they will transfer their learnings back to their everyday lives.
Sponsor
The entire cost of this programme has been generously funded by The Board of Rangitata Diversion Race Management Limited since its conception in 2020. This cost includes food, accommodation, transportation, instruction, and use of all gear required. This ensures that there are no barriers for students who are selected.
Criteria
Ten students are selected each year for this programme with the following criteria:
- Students must be year 10-13 students from local Mid to South Canterbury areas.
- They have been nominated by their school and recognised to potentially benefit most from a programme such as this one, but may struggle to find an opportunity because of personal or financial barriers.
Students have previously been selected from Ashburton College and Mt Hutt College.
